Privacy

Effective October 12, 2026

The short version: your manuscript never leaves your computer. Paperlight reads, lays out and saves your books inside your own web browser. We don’t receive them, store them, read them or train anything on them.

What stays in your browser

• Your books and their settings, your author profile, writing goals and story notes.
• Covers, maps, chapter pictures and saved versions of your text.
• Your theme and similar preferences.

These are kept in your browser’s own storage (local storage and IndexedDB) on your device. They are not sent to Paperlight’s servers. Clearing your browser’s site data deletes them, which is why Paperlight offers backup files you can save yourself. Files you download (PDFs, ebooks, backups) go wherever you save them.

If you choose “Save to a folder”, Paperlight writes a copy of your books into the folder you picked on your own computer, and reads it back when it changes. It can’t see anything else on your computer. If that folder is in a cloud drive such as OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive or iCloud, that service copies the file between your computers under its own terms; Paperlight still never receives it.

What our servers see

• Ordinary web requests: when you load a page, our hosting provider receives your IP address, browser type and the page requested, as every website does. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure, and are kept only as long as the host keeps them.
• Fonts and other parts of the app, which your browser downloads from us like any web page.

We use no advertising, no analytics trackers and no cookies.

If you join the email list

If you sign up for news, your email address goes to the email-list service we use, which sends a confirmation and lets you unsubscribe from any message. We use it only to tell you about Paperlight.

If you buy Paperlight Pro

Payments are handled by our payment provider, which collects your card details directly; we never see or store them. We receive what we need to give you access and to answer questions: your email address, what you bought, when, and the country for tax.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask for a copy, by writing to the contact address shown on this site. Your books are already entirely in your control: they’re on your device.

Children

Paperlight is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
